Conference information

The 58th Conference of the ICHRPI will be held on 4th-7th September 2007 in Edinburgh, Scotland, at the Scottish Parliament in collaboration with the universities of St Andrews and Edinburgh. The conference will form part of the programme marking the tercentenary of the 1707 Act of Union between England and Scotland.

Main conference theme: PARLIAMENTS and POLITICAL UNIONS from the MIDDLE AGES to the PRESENT DAY
Papers are especially invited on the theme of parliaments and political unions in Europe and the world from the Middle Ages to the present day.

Other conference themes will include:

  1. parliamentary elections – the nature and manner of elections to parliaments
  2. parliamentary officials and officers – their roles, powers and status in parliaments
  3. the architectural history of parliaments – the design, construction and architecture of parliaments
  4. parliaments and the media – the representation of parliaments through different media, the relationship between parliaments and the media
  5. sources and methodology for the study of parliamentary history
  6. the relationship between parliaments and other representative institutions – such as religious and legal bodies
